Sr. Managing Director, Chairman
Daniel Yun is the Chairman and Member of the Executive Committee of EMP Belstar SuperFreeze. Mr. Yun is based in New York and is responsible for the overall strategic guidance of the company.
Mr. Yun is the founder of Belstar, a private investment firm focused on structured credit and private equity investments. Since 1998 the firm has successfully managed more than $5 billion over seven investment vehicles. Prior, Mr. Yun worked at Goldman Sachs and Lehman Brothers in the fixed income divisions in New York.
Mr. Yun attended the United States Military Academy at West Point. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served as a company commander in S. Korea. While in the U.S. Army, he became Airborne and Air Assault qualified.
Mr. Yun obtained a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Oklahoma. He has been an active Advisory Board Member at RAND Centre for Asia Pacific Policy since 2000.
Sr. Managing Director
Joonho Lee is the member of the Executive Committee of EMP Belstar SuperFreeze. He is based in Seoul, Korea.
Mr. Lee founded EMP Belstar Co., Ltd. (Korea) and has successfully managed overall investments and raised fund as a CEO of EMP Belstar Korea. Mr. Lee has extensive experience in project sourcing and analysis, and investment structuring for major Korean institutions including pension funds, securities companies, insurance companies, and corporations.
Prior to joining EMP Belstar, Mr. Lee was a Vice President at KPMG Financial Advisory Service and managed various corporate M&A and loan transactions including non-performing loans. Mr. Lee received a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science from Yonsei University and an MBA from New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business.
Managing Director, Operations
Troy Shortell is the International Operations Head of EMP Belstar SuperFreeze, and a Member of SuperFreeze’s Board. He is responsible for the company’s operational development outside South Korea.
Prior to assuming his current role in 2022, Mr. Shortell was Executive Director for CBRE Asia Pacific, where he launched and led a new supply chain advisory business line in the region. He has over 25 years of experience operating and investing in supply chain and cold logistics across China and most other Asia-Pacific markets.
Troy is the former Head of DHL’s Global Customer Solutions Division in the Asia-Pacific region, where he was a regional and global Board Member. Mr. Shortell was also the previous Head of Greater China and Southeast Asia for HAVI Logistics.
Mr. Shortell has a master’s degree from the University of California, at Santa Barbara, and conducted his business training at INSEAD in France and Singapore.
Managing Director, Korea
Duckwon Kim is a partner and a member of the Executive Committee of EMP Belstar SuperFreeze and a board member for Korea SuperFreeze Pyeongtaek and Korea SuperFreeze Operating Company. Mr. Kim is based in Seoul and is responsible for operational oversight and spearheads strategic development within South Korea.
Being one of the key founding members who originated the very idea of LNG Cold Energy’s strategic usage for warehouse operations at a commercial scale, Mr. Kim brings to EMP Belstar his operational expertise and seasoned experience in the fields of private equity and infrastructure investments with a strong focus in the logistics field. Prior to joining EMP Belstar, Mr. Kim was a vice president for Lazard Asia, where he oversaw and executed numerous cross-border corporate M&As. Before Lazard Asia, Mr. Kim served as a manager for Eugene Private Equity, a leading 1st generational private equity house in South Korea, and an associate for Macquarie Securities.
Mr. Kim holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business.
Managing Director, International Development
Tony Chang is a Partner in the Seoul office of EMP Belstar SuperFreeze. He is responsible for sourcing and execution of business initiatives outside of Korea.
Previously, Mr. Chang was a Partner at Bravia Capital Asia Pacific where he developed logistics-related opportunities in Southeast Asia including Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore. Prior to this, he was a Founding Member of EMP Belstar’s Seoul office.
Mr. Chang received a B.A. in economics from Cornell University and an MBA from the Stern School of Business at New York University.
Managing Director, Development
NamKeun (NK) Lim is a Managing Director of EMP Belstar SuperFreeze. He is based in South Korea and is responsible for the company’s project development and financing in South Korea.
Mr. Lim has over 17 years of experience working in private equity, corporate finance and project developments with a focus on real estate and infrastructure.
In prior roles he was a Senior Director in the alternative investment division at Korea Investment Corporation (KIC), a sovereign wealth fund of South Korea, with various roles in the global real estate and infrastructure programs. He was a Director and one of the Founding Members of Samjong Investment Advisory (SIA), a subsidiary of KPMG Korea, advising various institutional investors, conglomerates and governmental bodies. He was also a Senior Analyst at KPMG in the corporate finance division.
Mr. Lim holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Seoul National University and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter holder.
CEO, Korea SuperFreeze
JinHa Kim is the CEO of Korea SuperFreeze, his main role is to manage sales and marketing for the resources of several independent asset corporations, as well as the operation of the IT platform and asset development headquarters.
Mr. Kim has more than 34 years of experience in the logistics business. He started his career in the sales and marketing of logistics facilities for 10 years at Samsung Techwin, a company specializing in automation equipment for the Samsung Group. After that, he founded EXE Technologies, a venture company specializing in logistics IT platforms, which he sold after working there for 12 years.
For the next 8 years, Mr. Kim worked in Korea and the United States as the leader in global logistics at Samsung SDS, a Samsung Group Logistics company. After that, he worked as a CDO in charge of digital transformation at HMM, a global shipping company of Korean origin, before joining Korea SuperFreeze as CEO.
Mr. Kim majored in mechanical engineering at Korea University with an MBA and completed the logistics and digital CEO courses at Inha University and KAIST.
CEO, SuperFreeze Pyeongtaek
YoungSun Kim is the CEO of Korea SuperFreeze Pyeongtaek and Songsan.
YoungSun has worked for various financial institutions such as securities companies, bank holding companies, and life insurance companies for more than 35 years. He has also worked in research, asset management and investment banking. While working in London, he invested in emerging markets such as Russia and Southeast Asia.
Mr. Kim participated in the initial planning stage of Korea SuperFreeze, completed the construction of Pyeongtaek and is currently in charge of its operation.
Mr. Kim graduated from Korea University Business School and obtained an MBA from New York University.
COO, Korea SuperFreeze
Shin Yangsoo is the Chief Technology Officer and Head of the Digital Operations Division of Korea SuperFreeze. He is responsible for the company’s IT infrastructure and the development & operations of the logistics platform.
Mr. Shin has over 31 years of experience working in logistics. He has provided large-scale logistics system development services to various clients internationally. Prior to joining Korea SuperFreeze, he was the Head of the Solutions Division and the Head of the Latin America Division of Samsung SDS and EXE C&T, which was acquired by Samsung SDS, and implemented Samsung’s logistics management platform “CELLO” in Europe, North America, and Central & Latin America.
Mr. Shin holds an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from Myongji University and a master’s degree in software engineering from Korea University’s Graduate School of Computer & Information Technology.
Managing Partner, Blue Marlin Partners
Peter Kirsch is a founder and a managing partner of the Blue Marlin Partners, a private equity firm focused on investments in established, profitable lower middle market businesses with attractive valuations.
Prior to founding Blue Marlin Partners, Mr. Kirsch oversaw and directed investments for the family office of the founder of America Online for ten years, where he was responsible for all financial management and direct investments. In this position he also served as the liaison and trusted advisor for other family offices and high net worth individuals seeking to co-invest.
Mr. Kirsch also served as Investment Committee Chairman, Longstreet Partners, Advisor, The Edgewater Funds and numerous boards of directors. In his prior roles, he was CEO of Platformix and CEO the American Society of Landscape Architects.
Mr. Kirsch received his B.S. in Communications from Marquette University.
Sr. Managing Director, CITIC Capital
Fanglu Wang is CITIC Capital’s Senior Managing Director and Managing Partner of CITIC Capital ESG Group, focused on deploying sustainable investment strategies in emerging markets across Asia and globally.
He has over 30 years of experience in capital markets, corporate finance, financial engineering and risk management. He has led several major capital raising transactions for the China Ministry of Finance and other major corporations. Mr. Wang was the former Head of Product Marketing and Sales for China at HSBC, a Director in Investment Banking and Debt Capital Markets at Merrill Lynch Asia, a Vice President at Citibank Hong Kong and an Executive Director at Sakura Global Capital. Mr. Wang also sits on the board of several portfolio companies, across multiple sectors and geographies.
Mr. Wang received an M.A. in Statistics from the University of Chicago, a B.Sc.. in Mathematics and a B.A. in Journalism from Fudan University in Shanghai.
Vice President, Mancal Group
Ralph Lee is a vice president, Manvest Inc. of The Mancal Group (“Mancal”). He is based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and responsible for making private equity and venture capital investments.
Mr. Lee is a seasoned private capital investor with diverse experience working in investment banking, corporate development and strategy, private equity, and venture capital investments. He has lived in broad range of markets including Canada, Hong Kong, and South Korea. Prior to Mancal, he was an investment professional at a leading Pan-Asian private equity firm focused on mid-market growth capital and infrastructure investments. In addition to his private equity experience, Mr. Lee previously worked in cross-border merger and acquisitions advisory in his investment banking role at BDA Partners (global strategic partnerships with William Blair and the Development Bank of Japan). He also held corporate development and strategy roles at Teekay and Caracal Energy.
Mr. Lee holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Calgary with a major in Finance. His strategic and insightful views bring value to his current board member role with EMP Belstar Superfreeze Group Holdings and a board observer role with Nautilus Data Technologies.
