“The [Superfreeze] investment pledges bear significance as it is highly linked to the government’s policy goals of strengthening supply chains and achieving carbon neutrality goals,” Industry Minister Lee Chang-yang said during the ceremony.

“We will give more incentives for foreign investment in advanced industries and reform discriminatory rules or other regulations that fail to meet international standards,” he added.

Daniel Yun added “We are honoured by the recognition of Superfreeze by President Yoon and Minister Lee.  When we founded Superfreeze nearly a decade ago, our intention was to build a business that profited by serving the local community and Korea as a whole.   We are committed to continuing investing with that principle in mind to help bring important food and health infrastructure to Korea, while lowering the carbon footprint of cold storage logistics.   We are also excited to roll our technology and operations out across Asia during 2023.”

About Superfreeze

Superfreeze operates a network of innovative cold storage facilities that provide essential food and health infrastructure to communities in South Korea by storing fresh food and pharmaceuticals at a range of temperatures from ultracold (-60 degrees Celsius and below), and frozen (-20 degrees Celsius and below) to refrigerated storage.   The Company’s warehouses are redefining sustainability in the cold logistics with the option to employ patented technology to extract the cold energy released in the regasification of Liquid Natural Gas.    This energy is normally wasted and deposed off into seawater or the atmosphere.    Superfreeze captures the waste energy and uses it productively to cool its warehouses – in the process generating a negative carbon footprint for its cooling.     The cold energy also allows efficient, large-scale cooling to temperatures as low as -72 degrees Celsius.   Based on this competitive advantage, Superfreeze’s Pyeongtaek facility has been the primary distribution hub for MMRA covid vaccines in Korea on behalf of the South Korean government.

Superfreeze is owned by EMP Belstar and several international investors including CITIC Capital Pan Eurasia Fund, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and Blue Marlin Partners.
